Baked Izmir Köfte Recipe

We love grilling köfte but not all köfte need to be grilled. Here is a great recipe from the great city of Izmir in Turkey. Izmir is the third largest city in Turkey and famous of its Aegean varieties.

Ingredients: One package of (1.5 lbs) Mediterranean Meatballs (Kofte Revolution) brand, two large potatoes, 4 tomatoes, long or bell peppers, 1 small onion, half a cup of tomato paste, salt, pepper and any of your favorite spices

Peel and slice the potatoes in round form. Heat vegetable oil in a pan and fry potatoes first. Then take Kofte Revolution köfte from its clear wrapper and fry them lightly. Lastly, fry other vegetables such as peppers and onions.

Prepare the sauce:

Mix one peeled and grated tomato, tomato paste and a cup of water. Add some butter and green spices such as oregano, basil and thyme. Let it boil and simmer

Before you bake:

In a casserole or oven safe container, place the potatoes on the bottom. Then place the köfte and place fried vegetables and sliced tomatoes on top. Lastly, pour the sauce evenly in to the casserole.

Bake 25 minutes at 380 Fahrenheit.
